My friend Joey Ukrop has been my window into the world of the hot rod faithful. A lifetime historian of hotrodding, he’s forgotten more about the cars and the era than I’ll ever know. After almost a decade of covering rods as a journalist for Rodder’s Journal he started to build his own car in a one-car garage in San Francisco. Built with parts slowly acquired from the forums and swap meets of the rodding world, each one means something to Joey. A car truly more than the sum of its parts.
